Table 2

Making the Legs

Cut the 2x4s per the lengths in the drawing and stack to keep the lengths separate. It's not necessary but a good practice! I highly recommend that you use some sort of stop on your saw to give you repeatable lengths. You'll have a wonky table if all legs are different lengths and the stretchers will be almost impossible to insert!

You're anxious to glue these pieces together, right? Hang on. You need to make some gauges that will make the final assembly A LOT easier. It will prevent your table from turning into an annoying teeter-totter. The three gauges are shown below and the plans for them are in, where else, the plan! The left one is the make the right amount of leg stick up through the table top. The middle one makes sure you have enough room to run a steel bar through the leg and stretcher and the right one spaces a slot so another 2x4 may fit in tightly. You'll see. Hey, someone can't spell gauge!

One more preparation: We used a brad nailer with 2 brads to join just about everything and gobs of glue. You could also use 2 drywall screws and glue but the brads are much easier to use and give the legs a cleaner look. We used a small paint roller and a big jug of wood glue. Layout the four legs as shown to make sure you have everything.
