Art Sled Rally
Or… “FÊTE OF FEATS”

GIANT SNOW TRACK! SLEDDING FEATS!! HOT CHOCOLATE!!!

Please mark your calenders! On Saturday, February 16th, 2pm, members of my block on 16th Avenue and I are organizing an Art Sled Rally in Powderhorn Park, and we're looking for help from anyone interested.

Watch the antics of outrageous, never-tried-before sleds or drop in yourself with a sled design of your own. Awards are given for the most creative art sleds and the most outrageous feats on these sleds.

After the competition, the tracks are open for a gigantic neighborhood slide!

Minneapolis Parks and Rec may be creating some luge-like sledding runs and we'll be decorating the slopes with artwork, banners from local sponsors and snow jumps. I'm looking for a local cafe to help us with coffee and hot chocolate in a warming tent the Park will provide. Leading up to the rally, there will be free workshops at Powderhorn Community Center for anyone interested in creating art sleds for the rally, i.e. double-decker sleds, sleds with wings, sleds in the shape of animals, outrigger sleds, sleds with streamers, fire sleds (pending the marshall's approval), anything goes...

The event will be moderated like a monster truck rally with an Sportscaster, music and mock prizes for almost every conceivable category applicable to strange sleds. So...

1) Are you interested in creating an art sled for the event? Can I enter you in the register?
2) Are you interested in creating artwork for the slopes? Banners, streamers, snow sculpture, etc...
2) Are you interested in helping us find local sponsors and/or donations? For donations in-kind or in-cash from businesses we'll put a banner on the slopes. In-kind donations could include cheap sleds, artistic scraps and materials, tools & paint, sound system and/or live music, treats and drinks, etc...

Come if you can on January 26th and bring a sled, snowboard or scrap of cardboard!

FÊTE (fet, fãt): Frolic, Soiree. Bash. Shindig, Shebang, Affair, Carouse, Jubilee, etc…

ART-SLED: Anything built to slide in the most fashionable, ridiculous or artistic way. Double-deck sleds, outrigger sleds, sleds shaped like beasts or vehicles, sleds with built-in lights or special effects, tandem sleds, winged sleds, anything goes… and prize categories will be created for just about anything that gets made.
